Overcoming the Urgency Mindset

Pro Tip: Rest Is Resistance

I have been on a journey of dismantling and overcoming the urgency mindset that has long lived in my body.

Struggling to rest

✨ Feeling unable to relax when there are “things to do.”

Negative thoughts and emotions that creepiong in whenever I don’t “do enough.”

I know all too well how these narratives and belief systems sink into our bodies, taking hold in a way that requires serious work to undo.

For me, it has required a lot of patience, and often, some extra support.

What I wasn’t prepared for was what ease would really do to me once I finally started to overcome the urgency mindset, and began deconstructing these beliefs and behaviors.

Healing from the Urgency Mindset: What Happens When You Finally Slow Down

I felt exhausted. I slept a lot. Sometimes, I felt like I would never get enough rest—I just couldn’t get “caught up.”

I worried that something was wrong with me. While there wasn’t something wrong with me, per se, there was something off about the way I was pushing my body.

Slowing down allowed me to begin the long healing process of releasing years of overexertion.

A photo of me pointing to the words on my sweatshirt that say "In my healing era".

🌀 It has been two years since I truly began overcoming the urgency mindset, and I still go through cycles.
🌀 Sometimes, I feel like I’ve gotten enough rest and can hold onto the recharge I need to function as a mom, wife, business owner… and human.
🌀 Other times, it feels like I am right back where I started.

That’s when those old narratives creep back in…

“You are so behind.”
“You should be doing more.”

When those thoughts and feelings resurface, I’ve learned to take them as cues to release whatever my body is holding on to.

How to Release Hustle Culture and Embrace Rest Without Guilt

Allow it.  Feel it.  Regulate it.  Release it.

My go-to resources vary depending on what’s happening in my life.

💤 Sometimes, it’s going to bed early and getting a good night’s sleep.
😢 Other times, it’s a good cry—or a good laugh.
📖 I might find ease and escape in a good book or my favorite music.
💛 Mostly, though, I reconnect with what’s true when I’m present with the people in my life.
